SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SAFETY

    1. If you have to walk along the road to your bus stop, walk on the left side of the road facing traffic. When cars are coming toward you, get well off the road to avoid any danger of being hit.
    2. Be at your bus stop on time and wait for the bus in a safe place off the road.
    3. If it is necessary to cross the road at the bus stop, do so only when the way is clear and the bus has stopped completely. Be sure that all other traffic has stopped and LOOK BOTH WAYS before crossing.
    4. Walk, don't run, when crossing the road at the bus stop. Cross far enough in front of the bus that you can see the driver and the driver can see you.
    5. Use the handrail when entering or leaving the bus.
    6. Take you assigned seat or as directed by the bus driver or monitor.
    7. Observe classroom conduct while riding. Loud or unusual behavior could distract the driver and cause an accident. Always obey the driver.
    8. Open the windows only if the driver gives you permission.
    9. Keep head, arms and hands inside the bus. Do not throw objects from the bus.
    10. Keep the aisle clear of objects that could cause someone to stumble.
    11. Remain seated until the bus has stopped before attempting to leave it.
    12. Move away from the bus quickly after getting off. Remember -- walk, don't run.
    13. Report any misbehavior or vandalism to the bus driver.
    14. In the event of an accident or emergency, you may have to evacuate the bus. Go to a safe place off the highway and wait for help.
