Instrument Availability

  • Students who choose to play French horn or baritone may use a school instrument.

  • A limited number of school instruments of all types are available for families with financial needs.

SUPPLIES

Method Book

All students need the Tradition of Excellence book for their band level. Grades 5 and 6 use book one (red), 7th grade uses book 2 (blue), and 8th grade uses book three (green).

Music Stand

All students need a music stand or some other object to set their music on when practicing at home.

Instrument-Specific Needs

Flute: cleaning rod and cloth/silk swab

Oboe & Bassoon: at least 2 reeds at all times in a plastic reed case, cleaning swab (silk), cork grease

Clarinet & Saxophone: at least 4 reeds at all times in a plastic reed case, cork grease, cleaning swab (silk)

Valve Brass Instruments (trumpet, French horn, baritone, tuba): valve oil, slide grease, mutes

Trombone: slide cream & small water spray bottle OR slide oil, tuning slide grease, mutes

Percussion (Note: percussionists will play bells for their first year of band, whether they start in 5th, 6th, or 7th grade, in order to have this background): stick bag, 5A drum sticks, hard plastic mallets, medium general timpani mallets; + a bell and snare kit for practice at home (potentially needed at school depending upon school instrument availability)
