Personal Help and Assistance
There is always a time when we need some assistance in coping with different events and issues in our lives. Ask for help. Come into Guidance and speak with a counselor or check out one of the websites listed below. We also have a school attendance counsellor and social worker that is available to assist students and families.
Family & Youth Counselling
Welkin (formerly The Oxford-Elgin Child & Youth Center) is pleased to provide Walk-in service for students and families in crisis on Thursdays from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm at their St. Thomas office at 99 Edward Street.
Bereavement
Bereaved Families of Ontario, London Branch
This organization provides a "Grief Support Workshop" for secondary school students who have experienced the death of a parent. Services are free and confidential. http://www.bfo.london.on.ca

The Canadian Mental Health Association has created this website for youth to understand the many issues related to being a teen and experiencing mental health problems. The site addresses how mental health problems and mental illness can affect your life at school, and ways of dealing with some of the things you are experiencing so that you can get through high school and get on with your life!
School Nurse
The Thames Valley District School Board has established a partnership agreement with the Central Community Health Center to provide nurse counselling services at AVSS. Students wishing to make an appointment with the counsellor are encouraged to make an appointment in the Guidance office.
