Students can use a Google Slideshow to create a portfolio of their work. As students work on activities or complete tasks, they can photograph their work and add the photos to the slides. They can use slides for writing reflections on their learning, as well. The slideshow can become a "one-stop-shop" bank of evidence of their learning.
Modify a Google Slideshow so that it is set up the way you would like your student portfolios to look.
To modify the Master, go to Slide > Edit Master to change the overall look and set-up of the theme you've chosen.
Change the background colours and layout of the slides you want to change. Edit the names of the slides to make it easier for students to find the type of page you would like them to use.
For example, if your course is organized by strand, learning goal or unit, consider associating a colour with each one and setting the background of a slide to that colour and then naming the slide with the appropriate title.
Here are some example slides related to the three strands in the Grade 9 Applied Math Ontario curriculum (MFM1P):
Green - Number Sense and Algebra
Red - Linear Relations
Orange - Measurement and Geometry
If you use Google Classroom, create an assignment, upload your slideshow, and select "Make a copy for each student" instead of "Students can view the file." Then assign the portfolio.
Each student should receive a copy of the slideshow in their Classroom folder for your class. They can then edit the slideshow at any time, and you can navigate to their slideshow via the assignment in Google Classroom.
Here's an example portfolio:
Teachers can review portfolios at any time, make comments on slides and record assessment data as needed. They can also add to the slideshow with evidence they track as well.
