Student Services Perspective

All students have a unique and special place in our school. The middle school model centres around building a community of leaders in a very creative way. With this in mind, it is very important that we remember the contributions that can be made by our special needs students. Special needs students, like any student, have a wide array of abilities and interests. It is important that we are inclusive in our schools and we remember to allow all members of our student bodies to participate in our advisory and in our exploratories. The participation of any student is dependent upon their ability. Many students with special needs excel in group work, whole class activities, and discussion. Students with special needs can offer a group or an advisory a meaningful and enriching experience. In that same spirit, peers can also offer special needs students an opportunity to learn, to belong, to be part of a group, and to participate in something very meaningful. Your student services staff can help you to plan what this may look like.
