School Advisory Council Meeting Agenda and Notes

April 9, 2025

Old Business:

• Spending from last year: rugs are arriving

New Business:

• SSP goals update and 3 short-cycle goals:

  • Wellness: Positive reinforcement through Smokey Smiles - Students are motivated by receiving books and slips.

  • Literacy: Daily writing with UFLI

  • Numeracy: Diagnostic assessments to inform targeted interventions

• Provincial assessment is upcoming

• Emergency Preparedness: Lockdown drills completed, fire drills still needed

• Funding: $5000 added for SAC and healthy living

• Approved spending for:

  • Sunshade

  • Grade 2 tables

  • T-shirts for all students

  • Grade 5 day

  • School PD subs for support

  • Yoga

• School Activities:

  • Upcoming: Marionettes, Bluenose run at North Highlands, Fun day

  • Completed: Skating, downhill and cross-country skiing, Home and School Literacy Day, Basketball season and pictures

    • Home and School Literacy Day extensions planned with workshops on dream catchers, bracelets, lobster trap construction, and more

• School lunch was a success

• School snacks

• Support in the school for students: New CYCP hired, currently working at CSE
