Good Afternoon,
We are seeing an increase in measles cases around the world, so Public Health has developed some messages and resources for folks who are travelling or coming to Canada
Measles information for people living in Nova Scotia
Measles cases are on the rise around the world, as well as here in Canada. While the risk of community spread remains low in Nova Scotia, we expect Canada will see additional measles cases related to travel to places where measles is a concern.
Public Health is advising people who are travelling to places where measles is a concern to consider the following:
An early dose of measles vaccine may be given to children between 6 and 12 months old to protect them. Your baby will still need to get two further doses of measles vaccines after their first birthday.
Adults and adolescents should speak to their healthcare provider or contact Public Health to decide whether a vaccine is needed before travelling. A dose may be recommended.
For more information about measles, please visit www.nshealth.ca/measles. You can also speak to a primary care provider or contact Public Health if you have questions.
Please check for travel health notices at your destination before travelling:
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you very much,
Christie
