Welcome
Hello! My name is Bailey Feest. I started my role as a School Counselor at Kewaunee Elementary with grades 4K-4 in 2019. Much like a school nurse, my services are available to ALL students. It is part of my job to ensure students are happy and doing their best at school. Many factors go into kids doing well-their ability to focus and pay attention, their relationships with peers and teachers, how well they can manage their feelings and impulses and their lives outside of school.
Benefits of School Counseling:
Children learn best when they feel good about themselves.
Children who understand their feelings are better able to control their behaviors.
Schools, parents and communities that communicate and collaborate provide the most effective support to children.
Attitudes formed during elementary school shape future attitudes towards learning, self and society.
It is my hope that as I get to know each of you and the students, I will become an important part of the team that helps our students succeed. Through classroom lessons, small groups, and individual counseling with students, I will be able to provide social-emotional support.

Small Groups
A process where students sharing similar issues or concerns work together in a small group environment consisting of about 3-6 peers.
Group sessions usually last about 30 minutes and are held for approximately 6-8 weeks.
Topics are based on the needs of the students.
Individual Counseling
A responsive service in which we seek to meet the students' immediate needs and concerns.
I provide a safe and confidential environment for students to discuss any social or emotional concerns they may have. (Feelings about him/herself, difficulty getting along with peers, problems at home or school, fears/worries or concerns.)
We will talk about feelings problems and potentially use materials such as books or games to help regulate our emotions and help understand more about the way we are feeling and what might help us cope with that emotion.
Classroom Lessons
Address social/emotional, academic, and career-related needs at the child's developmental level.
Some topics that may be discussed:
*anger management
*anxiety
*calm down strategies
*divorce
*grief & coping
*making and keeping friends
*mindfulness strategies
*problem solving
*self-esteem
*social skills
Students may come to see the School Counselor by:
1. Parent/guardian referral (contact via phone, email, or in person
2. Staff referral (staff notices a change or has a concern)
3. Self-referral (student stops by the office on their own).
