Meet the teacher

August 31, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Digital Literacy! I am so thrilled to have the opportunity to teach every student at JW Lilley about our educational digital tools! The start of a new year holds the promise of new discoveries and learning, as well as, the prospect of personal growth in all areas of technology. I look forward to learning more about each student as we explore together all the new and exciting things in Digital Literacy.

To tell you more about myself, I graduated from Rowan University in 1995 with my bachelor’s degree in Accounting. I worked as an accountant for fifteen years and loved it, but I knew that it was not my calling. I love education and children, so I had to pursue my dream. I went back to Rowan University and received my teaching certifications in 2009 for Elementary Education, Middle School Mathematics, and Comprehensive Business. I had been a substitute teacher for Gloucester Township Public Schools for five years. Three years ago, I started at JW Lilley as a third grade teacher and last year I was a fourth grade teacher. I have had such great rapport with the students and teachers of JW Lilley. I am so happy to continue to be a part of the JW Lilley family.

My teaching philosophy is based on the belief of a community learning environment with real-world applications. I believe that learning becomes more enjoyable to a student when they apply it to real-life situations. I will bring to my classroom a very innovative and creative way to teach my students, by relating our studies to their everyday life experiences. I want to create a community in my classroom, where the students enjoy working in cooperative groups and they are able to build healthy peer to peer relationships. I believe that with creativity, hands-on lessons, manipulatives, and interesting applications, I will be able to help students enjoy learning, keep them interested, and show them how it relates to their everyday life.

My door is always open. If you have something to share, please don’t hesitate to send a note with your child or email me (droccia@gloucestertownshipschools.org). Parent involvement is a big part of building our community learning environment.

I look forward to wonderful years of growth with you and your child!

Sincerely, Ms. Diann Roccia
