How Does My Child Utilize the Library Media Center?
The Glastonbury Public Schools Library Media Department is committed to teaching the skills and providing the resources necessary for meeting the information literacy needs of students and staff. The Library Media program develops effective and responsible users of ideas and information while promoting the enjoyment and importance of reading. Lessons link to classroom curriculum and regularly integrate current technologies to reinforce and enhance student learning.
During weekly visits to the library, kindergarten students:
learn library procedures and organization
experience quality literature in many formats and genres including
fiction, nonfiction, humor, and Caldecott Award-winning books.
participate by hearing, viewing, and responding to discussions
begin to distinguish between fiction and nonfiction and their locations in the library
begin to learn to select appropriate books independently
are introduced to PebbleGo, an age-appropriate nonfiction database

Media Center Policies
Kindergarten students may checkout 1 book
Books must be returned before another one is taken.
No fines are issued for overdue books.
Bills will be sent for lost or damaged books.
Lost Books
Email the LMS to let him/her know that you are actively looking for the book.
Once the LMS is notified, your child will be allowed to check out books.
Billing is delayed because we find books often show up.
Bills for lost books will be sent after one month.
If you returned the book to Welles Turner by mistake, contact Welles Turner. They will send the book back to our school.
Book Care Tips
Turn pages carefully.
Keep books away from pets and younger siblings.
Do not eat or drink while reading.
Keep water bottles away from books.
Place library books in a sealed baggy when carrying them to and from school.
