F.I.R.S.T.
Gladstone Robotics is a high school robotics team participating in a program called FIRST. FIRST was founded in New Hampshire, in 1989, by Dean Kamen. This program, which is broken into four divisions, assigns a new challenge each year for participants to create, design, build, and program robots of various sizes to perform the challenge. The four divisions of FIRST are JrFLL, FLL, FTC, and FRC. JrFLL and FLL divisions are designed to introduce children to engineering, math, and science while having fun. FTC and FRC are designed to let teens apply engineering, math, and science concepts to solving difficult challenges. FLL, FTC, and FRC all involve the construction of various sized robots. For more information on these divisions, please click on the respective link below.

FIRST Divisions:
For Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The newest addition to FIRST introduces basic math and science skills, while getting to build robots and have fun. The program also teaches children how to solve real world problems and establishes team building experience and communication skills.

Gladstone does not currently host any JR. FLL Teams.
For ages 9-14. FIRST Lego League, or FLL, is a great way to get kids comfortable with mechanical and technical design. With help from coaches and mentors, FLL will help teach the students to build a robot made from Lego parts and program it to compete in FLL competitions throughout the country. It also helps kids understand the basics of programing and mechanical design.

Gladstone does not currently have any FLL teams inm place. However mentors and members of Gladstone Robotics are working to establish 1-3 teams based out of John Wetten Elementry School for fall 2014.
For ages 14-18. First Tech Challenge is similar to FRC, but with smaller robot and more intricate tasks to be completed. FTC teens design, build, and program a robot that will solve tasks and challenges that are given to them.

Gladstone currently has 2 FTC teams based out of Kraxberger Middle School. For more information on FTC Teams 8132 and 8188, visit their website at: gearheads.gladstonerobotics.com
For ages 14-18. The FIRST Robotics Competition is for high school students who are willing to dedicate 6 weeks of the year to building an extremely challenging and complex robot. A team learns skills and concepts in engineering, technical science, math, programming, marketing, and more. it is a chance for teenagers to be in a team setting, while figuring out ways to solve problems and learn a lot about the engineering and technology involved in robotics. Each year, there is a new and unique challenge, and teams get 6 weeks to build a robot with the parts given the them in the kit of parts they recieve.
