Mrs. Gilbert

Dear Parents,

Welcome to First Grade and Downriver STEM @Weiss Elementary! You’re going to love it here! My name is Kari Gilbert and I am going to be your child’s 1st grade teacher.  I am excited about our new Project Based Learning program and the fun activities we have planned.  I am looking forward to meeting you and your child.

I graduated from Wayne State University with a Master’s in the Art of Teaching and I also have a specialization in early childhood. I have taught first grade for eight years and then Young Fives the last two school years. I am very happy to be back teaching first grade and to continue at Weiss.  I am looking forward to collaborating with my teaching partner and working together to continuously improve the curriculum and implement Project Based Learning.

During the school year your child and I will be spending many hours together in the classroom. My goal is to provide a nurturing, stimulating, developmentally appropriate, yet challenging environment for your child. I will always put your child’s best interest first and strive to keep you informed of your child’s growth. Our day will consist of many activities that not only revolve around academics but also around develop social and team-building skills and using technology. We will do many small group activities tailored to your child’s individual needs throughout the day.

I understand that it can be hard to leave your little one all day, so if you ever have any concerns, please DON’T hesitate to contact me! Your child’s well-being is of my utmost concern! You can send a note in your child’s travel folder, call the school, or email me at gilberk@gibdist.net. And of course you are always welcome to stop in and talk! I will try to get back with you as soon as possible. I can’t wait to share an exciting school year full of learning and fun with your child!

Sincerely,

Kari Gilbert
