Hello,
My name is Mr. Stanton and I will be your child’s First Grade teacher at Downriver STEM@Weiss. I am very excited about what should be an action-packed school year. Since we will be working together this year, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.
After graduating from Trenton High School, I attended Eastern Michigan University where I majored in Language Arts with a minor in Structure of Disciplines. I also have a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Eastern.
I live in Riverview with my wife Kristin, and our two sons. Cash is thirteen, and starting 8th Grade at Shumate. He attended Weiss all throughout elementary school! Knox is ten and will be in 5th grade at Weiss. My wife, Kristin, is an interior designer for Cabinetworks Group, specifically the Merillat and KraftMaid division, where she designs kitchen and bath interiors for magazines, catalogs, and trade shows as well as big-box store displays. She also has her own Etsy website where she does ‘side-work’. Kristin also works weekends at Bierkeller in Taylor waiting tables. So, our lives are very busy with the boys in sports and activities and trying to make ends meet.
I would like you to know that I have high expectations from the children both academically and for behaviors. We work very hard to establish a classroom culture of respect and doing our ‘personal best’. This teaches the children the value in doing high quality work. It also allows them to feel comfortable taking chances, having fun at school, and being silly when appropriate.
During the school year, our class will be learning many fun and exciting things. We will be hard at work on reading, writing, science and social studies, engineering concepts and much more. We are fortunately a one-to-one district. Each child will have their own iPad, which we will be using for individualized learning assignments, doing research, reading books, creating projects, writing computer code and MUCH MORE. My plan is for these iPads to stay at school unless a specific situation comes up or there is a project where the children will need them at home.
It is very important to me that you feel comfortable coming to me with any questions or concerns. Please feel free to message me through Parent Square or send me an email (which I usually can answer more quickly during the school day.) I will also be keeping up a classroom Facebook page to communicate what we are doing in the classroom, and we will be using a new district wide direct messaging app called ParentSquare.
I look forward to a fun-filled year of learning and growing in First Grade!
Sincerely,
Mr. Stanton
