Student Grades: AVID students are expected to maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher in all of their classes and should not be failing AVID.
Student Behavior: AVID students are expected to model exemplary behavior throughout their time at Lombardi Middle School. They do this by following the Lombardi Way both in the classroom and outside of it.
Student Attendance: AVID students are expected to maintain good attendance. This includes both absences and tardies to all classes throughout the school day.
Student Participation: AVID students are expected to participate in all elements of the class. If fully engaged in the course, this class will push students and help them to become a better student in all of their classes.
AVID Tutorials: AVID students are required to come to the AVID class on Tutorial Days (Tutorial Days will vary by year and class) prepared with their Tutorial Request Form (TRF) completed.
Pencil Pouch: Students must keep a pencil pouch with the following supplies - 2 black or blue ink pens, 2 or more pencils, and 1 or more highlighters.
AVID Binder: Students are expected to carry a 2 inch (or larger) binder organized according to AVID guidelines. These binders are provided by Lombardi Middle School. Students should carry the binder everyday and in every class. This is non-negotiable. The Binder Check Rubric is used to grade student binders.
Focused Note Taking (FNT): Mainly used during a class lecture, a class presentation, a class reading, or a movie containing information for which the student must be responsible. To receive full credit, students must have all areas on their Focused Notes completed in the correct format. More information about the Focused Note Taking Process can be found here. The Focused Note Taking Rubric is used to grade student notes.
Planner: Students must write any homework, tests, quizzes, projects (etc.) in their planner. The notes in the planner must be specific and detailed. If there is no homework for that class for that day, students should write down what they learned in class, what they did in class, or the learning target (writing down "nothing" or "no homework" is not an option.) Do not leave the square blank. The Planner Check Rubric is used to grade student planners.
Homework: AVID students may have homework every day. The homework consists of completing Focused Notes, writing in their student planners, completing Tutorial Request Forms, as well as other class content surrounding goal setting, growth mindset, college/career exploration, public speaking, and more.
