  • Director's Update - 4/30/18
    Brass/Percussion Rehearsal
    The combined brass and percussion sections will rehearse after school today until 4:00. All of these students are required to be present. The combined woodwind sections will meet next Monday after school and the entire band will meet the following Monday (May 14). 

    Band Parent Meeting
    All current and next year band parents will meet tomorrow evening at 6:30 in the band room. 

    Spring Concert
    Our spring concert will be held on Thursday, May 17 at 7pm. Please see the dress code below.

    Men:  Black, long-sleeve dress shirt, black dress pants, long tie (no bow ties), black socks, black

    dress shoes

    Women:  Black dress pants with black button-down blouse or long black dress, black dress

  • Director's Update - 4/8/18
    I hope everyone has had a great spring break and is ready to finish the semester! 

    After School Rehearsals
    Earlier in the semester, after school sectionals were scheduled for our different groups. These were scheduled to start again tomorrow. However, since the two bands are combining for the spring concert, there have been some changes to the schedule. Instead of separate sectionals, we will have the following after school rehearsals until 4:00. Students may ride the remediation bus home if they need to.

    Monday, April 30 - Combined Brass/Percussion Rehearsal
    Monday, May 7 - Combined Woodwinds Rehearsal
    Monday, May 14 - Combined Bands Rehearsal

    Meeting for Next Year's Band
    There will be a mandatory meeting for all students and parents who will be involved in the band program next year on Tuesday, April 17 at 6:30pm in the band room. There are some exciting things being planned and we want everyone to be informed. Please make every effort to be here!

    Spring Concert
    Our spring concert is scheduled for Thursday, May 17 at 7pm. This will feature the combined 2nd and 4th period groups as well as our 4th period Percussion section.

  • 2018-19 Band
    Attached you will find the 2018-19 band calendar and commitment form. Here are some important points to consider.
    • All current fees must be paid in full by Friday, June 1. If you need fundraising opportunities, please let me know. Any band member who still owes fees at the beginning of next school year will not be allowed to perform until those fees are paid. Again, if you need financial help, please let me know and we will work something out. 
    • All students must be enrolled in a band class both semesters. As always, there may be exceptions to this. However, I must approve all requests to miss one semester or the other. 
    • The Summer Chop Builder rehearsals are for everyone. If you are in town on these dates, you should be at rehearsal.
    • Band camp is mandatory for everyone in the marching band. Please do not schedule vacations during these weeks. The first week will be for all new marchers regardless of grade level, all percussion, and all color guard. The second week is for everyone.
    • Attendance at all after school practices, football games, competitions, and parades is mandatory. Please make sure you can make a full commitment before deciding to join marching band. When one person is absent, it affects the entire group. 
    • Highland School of Technology students who would otherwise be assigned to North Gaston may audition for the marching band unless marching band were to ever become a required activity at Highland. Acceptance will be based on your ability to learn the show with less rehearsal time. Highland students are not eligible for color guard. Since you will only be rehearsing with us two days each week, you must be in attendance during camp and at every rehearsal. Failure to meet attendance requirements may result in losing your spot in the marching band. You will be notified later of your audition date.
    Please try to resolve any conflicts with the schedule if at all possible. Any and all conflicts should be e-mailed to me as soon as they are known. Again, attendance is crucial to our success. Marching band will be a class next year, so grades will be given for all rehearsals and performances.

    Further information regarding fees for next year will be sent out at a later date. If you have questions about current fees that are owed, please login to Charms first and check your financial statement. If you need help logging into Charms, please let me know. 

    Please complete the commitment form and return to me by Monday, March 5.

  • Director's Update - 2/11/18
    All-County Band
    Congratulations to Cecilia Chan, Haley Peninger, Bryce Smith, CJ Reid, Bryleigh Weigum, Isaak Gibson, Kail Ronan, and Zakiyah McCullough for representing us at All-County Band this past weekend!

    After School Sectionals
    Sectionals continue this week after school from 3:10-4:00. 
    Monday - Symphonic Band Percussion
    Tuesday - Concert Band Woodwinds
    Thursday - Symphonic Band Woodwinds

    Next Concert
    Our next concert is scheduled for Thursday, March 15 at 7:00. Both ensembles will perform their MPA music. We go to MPA on March 19 and 20. As soon as the schedule is released, I will let you know which group goes on which day.

    Marching Band Auditions
    Auditions for Color Guard and Drum Major will take place March 26-29 after school until 5:00. The Color Guard application is attached below. Please note that any fees currently owed must be paid before you can become a member of next year's squad. You will not be allowed to carry over a balance anymore.

    Fund Raising
    We have a great opportunity for you to pay off any fees you currently owe. You can sell box of candy and receive $18 toward your account for each box you sell. This can add up very quickly and you can get your fees paid. If you would like a box, you can pick one up any day after school.

    Marching Band Calendar
    Below is the attachment for next year's marching band calendar. Marching band will be a class during the fall semester. All marching band students must be enrolled in the class in order to participate. Rehearsals will also take place after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 6:00 (note the time change). Another change is in how we will run band camp. The first week of camp will be only for rookies, percussion, color guard, and leadership. The entire band will come together for the second week of camp. The time for everyone both weeks will be 8am-5pm. Marching rehearsal will take place in the morning and music rehearsal in the afternoon. Band camp is required for everyone in marching band. Please plan vacations accordingly as attendance is crucial to our success. Most events are included in this calendar. There is one event that is still pending and as soon as it is made official, I will announce that date.
