About Mrs. Herman

Hi! My name is Leigh Herman, and I think my job is the best job in the world!  I have been a teacher at Tryon Elementary School for twenty-six years now, and I have enjoyed every minute! I taught first grade for the first fifteen years, second grade for four years and then I did a few years with combination classes. This year I am thrilled to be teaching third grade again! I am looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities that I will experience with my students!  We are going to have a fabulous year!
It is very important to me that my students look forward to coming to school each day. Our classroom is their "home away from home." It is also a place where they will feel valued and free to take risks. We are all going to become a family of learners, and we will spend this year helping each other reach our full potential!
The 2017/2018 school year is my 26th year teaching at Tryon Elementary.  I am a product of Gaston County Schools. I went to North Belmont Elementary, Stanley Middle, and graduated from East Gaston High School. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education K-6 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am a Pinnacle Leader, Mentor Teacher and Teacher of the Year in 1995, 2008, and 2014.  I am very blessed to be a part of such a wonderful school and community. Tryon Elementary School truly is "THE PURRFECT PLACE TO LEARN!"
My husband and I have been married twenty-six years. We have two children, Matthew and Emily. Matthew recently graduated from Chapel Hill and will continue with Grad School and Emily will be a Junior at Appalachian State!  I am a proud mom! They began school right here at Tryon with me and it seems like it was just yesterday! We have many happy memories from their years at Tryon Elementary! We are very thankful for all of the teachers at Tryon, BCMS and BCHS that made such a positive impact on their lives.
