How can I be successful in an online class?
Students learning online have greater responsibility for their own success than students in traditional classroom settings. As an online student, it is important that you have the self-discipline and self-motivation to work on a flexible schedule and not get behind. Persistence and willingness to work collaboratively in an online environment are also requirements.
Good written communication skills and a minimum level of technological experience are necessary. You will need to be comfortable using email, the Internet, and a variety of software packages.
Normally, one high school credit. This credit will appear on your high school transcript. Similar to traditional courses, if you fail an online course, an F will be recorded on your high school transcript. Make sure to talk with your counselor and/or a Gaston College liaison about the impact college courses may have on both your high school and college transcripts.
Gaston Online, Gaston College (CCP), and NCVPS (North Carolina Virtual Public School)
In an online course, students learn by reading, writing, and performing other learning activities designed by the instructor. Online students "attend" class by accessing the "Learning Management System" and completing assignments according to the class schedule. Students are expected to communicate regularly with the instructor and participate in class assignments.
NCVPS and Gaston Online will vary in the course requirements and the software required for class participation. Communicate with your school's e-learning advisor and /or your course instructor to ensure you have the required device or software to participate effectively.
Online courses are provided at no charge to students enrolled in Gaston County Schools during the school year.
Course start dates are based on the course provider. Please reference provider-specific information from the provider pages linked in the navigation frame on the left.
You have ten school days to drop an online course. After ten days, you are required to complete the course.
