Bend Lava Bear Wrestling Shoe/Uniform Exchange:

This year we will be establishing a wrestling equipment exchange. Please bring your clean , gently used gear, especially shoes, to practice. We will collect the outgrown gear and simply hand it down to smaller kids. Please tie shoes together and put tape on them with the size. Parents who contribute will have first dibs on equipment. The hope is , over the years, to have a wide range of choices.

Questions about gear exchange? call Maryann Deke 541-203-0037 or email at

What is the Lava Bear Wrestling Club??

The Lava Bear Wrestling Club is a USA wrestling sanctioned kids wrestling program that serves Kindergarten to 8th grade wrestlers.

All practices are at Bend High School in the Bend High wrestling room or the BSH North Balcony Gym. Enter through the Blue door on the East side of gym facility facing 9th St.

Beginners and experienced youth wrestlers are welcome! We have split practices in order to better meet the needs of differences in ability, age and competitive goals.

The "Blue Team (Juniors) that is usually composed of K-3 grade students practices 2 times per week. The junior age group practices are focused on learning fundamental wrestling skills, body position, strength and personal character.

The Gold Team (Seniors) is usually composed of 3-8 grade students (some younger if they advanced for their age) and practices 3 times per week. The senior age group has a competitive focus and high tempo practices. The senior age group practices also focus on character, basic skills and body position. Conditioning and more advanced technique are emphasized and developed within the senior practice group. The Gold Team practices to prepare for tournaments.

Our first practice date is usually the last week of October. The USA kids wrestling season usually ends within the first week of February. Attendance at all practices is very important for each athlete and the entire team.

Competitions are scheduled throughout the season every Saturday, usually starting the first Saturday of November and ending the 1st Saturday of February. Go to for the most up to date information on tournaments within the state.
