CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
1. THINK. Keep your brain turned on at all times.
2. BE COURTEOUS. Be polite, respectful, and considerate towards your teacher and classmates.
3. COME PREPARED. Bring proper materials to class every day.
4. WORK HARD. Always put forth your best effort.
5. ASK QUESTIONS. Ask questions when you don't understand.
GRADING
My system of grading is based on a number/point scale. Point values are given to each assignment. Some assignments, such as tests, quizzes, and projects will have greater point values than most daily work. All points are then entered into the PowerSchool gradebook, which attaches a letter grade to each students' total average. Parents can track student progress through the PowerSchool website.
HOMEWORK
The purpose of homework is to provide the extra practice needed for students to master the skills they learn in school. On nights when students have less actual written work they are encouraged to pleasure read, study vocabulary terms, or practice math facts. I like to give the students time following a lesson to begin any assignments while I am available to assist them. Faster workers, therefore, may have less out of class work than slower workers.
Students are required to record all assignments in an ASSIGNMENT NOTEBOOK. Daily Assignments will also be posted on the Homework Assignment Grid on Google Classroom.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Our SOCIAL STUDIES program focuses on Western Studies, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Central America. The four main areas of study are Geography, Economics, History, and Government. These four concepts will spiral throughout each unit including: United States Regions, Early Native American and Latin American Cultures (Maya, Aztec, Inca), Exploration, and Map/Globe Skills. In addition, we will look at current events followed in, Scholastic News, and on Newsdepth.
SCIENCE
Our SCIENCE program will focus on six major areas of study: Motion and Design, Ecosystems, Energy, Sound and Light, Earth, Moon, and Stars, and HEALTH. The approach will be primarily hands-on, with students completing experiments and investigations in class, as well as, virtual labs and activities online. Most assignments will be posted on Google Classroom.
