Intercellular RNA Transport

We investigate the mechanisms of intercellular RNA transport that supports systemic RNAi in C. elegans. In addition, we are investigating the developmental and signaling defects associated with mutations in these RNA transport proteins in C. elegans and mice.

  1. What proteins enable systemic RNAi?

  2. How do these proteins work (receptors, channels, chaperones, etc)?

  3. What are the endogenous signals and functions?

  4. Do mammalian homologs have similar activities and substrates?

  5. Can this knowledge be exploited to design more efficient and specific therapeutic siRNAs?
