Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a competition?

Our STEAM Night is NOT a competition. It is a time for students to share their knowledge with others. All students will receive special recognition for participating.

How do I present my project?

Each student will need a tri-fold display board. The display boards can be found at Michaels, Wal-Mart or any other arts and crafts store. All project materials should fit within the tri-fold board area. The tri-fold board should provide background information on the STEAM topic. Be creative and go in-depth with your topic! Students will also need a hands-on project in front of their board for a guest to learn more about their topic.

What is the focus of my project?

Projects can focus on any topic related to science, technology, engineering, art and math. Take time to explore your topic. Project boards can be designed in a variety of ways such as a research project, demonstrate math problem solving skills, the scientific process, engineering design process, or any other way you want to communicate your information to others.

How should I design my tri-fold board?

Click on the tab above "STEAM Night Tri-Fold Board Display and Activity" for more details. This is your project so make it your own creative design!

May I work with a partner on my project?

Yes. STEAM professionals collaborate with each other every day.

What are the safety guidelines for my project?

Projects that are restricted include testing on animals, human subjects, inappropriate photos, living organisms on display, potentially hazardous chemicals, or activities. Projects should not make a large mess causing danger to others around. Projects should not interrupt the presentation of surrounding projects.

What are the requirements for the hands-on activity I put together for guests?

The activity you create should follow the safety guidelines stated above. Remember, there will a limited amount of space so the activity will need to fit in front of your tri-fold board area. Be creative and make sure you have enough materials for many visitors to explore your topic.

Do I need to stay with my project during the STEAM Night

Yes. STEAM Night is a chance for guests to learn from your project and experience STEAM in action!
