Guidance Office Resources

I created this page in March of 2020 to provide resources for our WFS community during the Covid-19 Pandemic. There are resources on this page that I think are still useful. Please reach out to me if I can help you or your family in any way.aperry1@freeholdtwp.k12.nj.us732-431-5101 x8107

The Rainbow Strategy

The Rainbow Strategy can be used as a distraction when children are having nervous, worried or anxious feelings. Here's how the strategy works...

Using the colors of the Rainbow, children can be encouraged to find:

-Something that is red

-Something that is orange

-Something that is yellow

-Something that is green

-Something that is blue

-Something that is purple

You can also expand on this strategy by having children elaborate on the items they have picked. This strategy can be used anywhere!

5-4-3-2-1

The 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Strategy is a strategy that children can use anywhere! This is how it works:

  • Look For 5 Things You Can See

  • Become Aware Of 4 Things You Can Touch

  • Acknowledge 3 Things You Can Hear

  • Notice 2 Things You Can Smell

  • Become Aware Of 1 Thing You Can Taste

This strategy can be used as a distraction while having nervous, anxious or worried feelings.
