BIOGRAPHY

Deborah A. Zehler (IMIOLO)

Deborah has a BM Degree in Music Education, Applied Percussion, and a Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. Her MA is from the University of St. Thomas with a concentration in Orff-Schulwerk. Deborah is a recipient of the Classroom Music Teacher of the Year Award by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Erie County Council for Music Educators as well as a recipient of the NYS Educator of the Year award presented by the New York State English Council (for her innovative ideas of combining literature with music.) She’s performed at Carnegie Hall. She has Three books published by Heritage Music Press (Lorenz Corp.), “Teach Me Something New Today,” “We’re Gonna Play Today,” and “Play-a-Palooza.” She is a contributing composer to Activate Magazine and can be found in other Lorenz Corp. publications. Schott Music Corporation has published Deborah’s book, “The Animal Cracker Suite and Other Poems.” Deborah Zehler has presented many workshops and sessions across the United State and Canada since 1996 on the local, state and national level. Deborah has taught Orff Level I and III pedagogy as well as Movement I and Recorder I and II. She teaches grades K-5 general/vocal music, dance, drama, puppetry, as well as percussion lessons at Heritage Heights Elementary School in the Sweet Home Central School District in Amherst, New York. Not only does she teach in person in her assigned building but is also the district elementary virtual music teacher. She is currently composing music for a new musical that had its first read-through during the pandemic. Deborah resides in Depew, NY with her husband Tom and their children.

$5 for College Students to attend the workshop.
