Currently, we are in the Holocene Epoch*, a warm time between ice ages

- one-third planet covered in ice

colder and drier climate because ice locked water cut down on snow and rain
- plants and animals that couldn't adapt - perished!!!
- animals migrated in search of food
- humans followed to every cotinent but Antarctica
migrate - a permanent move to a new location
