If you are sick that is how much time you have to hand in any missing work. For example, if you are away for 3 school days, then you have 3 school days to make up the work when you get back. When the work is turned in the student can email Mrs. Esteves to let her know.
The same policy goes for any missed tests or quizzes if you were absent due to being sick, not on vacation.
Do not come to class and ask what you missed. Be prepared BEFORE you come back to school!!!
There are many resources that you should be checking before you come back to class.
Do all of these before you come back into the classroom:
1. Google Classroom (look at the assignments or materials that were posted on the dates you were absent)
2. Science Digital Model Notebook (in Google classroom and on my webpage)
3. Google HW Calendar (on all Teacher's webpages)
4. Borrow a classmate's notebook and copy their notes via FT, zoom or google chat. You can use a notebook from either Mrs. Esteves or Mr. Eggleston's class. All 6th graders are learning the same topics at the same time.
5. Ask a classmate to bring you home a copy of any handouts from class. If this is not possible you can pick up the handouts when you come back to school.
6. Text a friend
7. Snapchat a friend
8. TikTok a friend
9. Ask your friends when you play video games online (ROBLOX, FORTNITE, ROCKET LEAGUE, ETC).
10. Check the ABSENT file in the science classroom when you get back.
11. Email me (Mrs. Esteves) when you have turned in any missing assignments. I am happy to go back and check them when you let me know that they have been turned in.
In middle school the teachers do not chase down the students for missing work. Students should be checking Genesis to see if any assignments are missing. Come see your teacher during first period or email them asking for an available time to get caught up. Labs and experiments have extensive set up and clean up methods, this means that they can not be made up if a student is absent. It is the student's responsibility to copy the notes and observations from a classmate.
See "What to do if you are absent" above. Work is not provided ahead of time if you go on vacation. All information about assignments can be found on Google Classroom.
Tests and quizzes will be open notebook for 6th graders.
7th graders will have less and less time to use their notebook as the year goes on.
It is up to the student to make sure that their science notebook is up to date.
Tests will be cumulative. Students will see information on the tests from the entire school year, this is why their notebooks need to be up to date.
Tests: 40%
Quizzes/Projects: 35%
Homework/Classwork: 25%
If an assignment is not turned in on time, then a Missing (zero) will be assigned in Genesis. This does not mean that the zero will stand. Once the student turns in the assignment the grade will be adjusted.
Students (not parents!) must send an email to Mrs. Esteves to let her know that a late assignment has been turned in.
All homework and projects will have an assigned due date. For each day that the homework or project is late, the final grade will be lowered by 5 percentage points. For example, if the earned grade were to be an 85% if handed in on time, it would then become a 80% if handed in 1 day late, 75% if handed in 2 days late, etc.
Tests: 40%
Quizzes/Projects: 35%
Homework/Classwork: 25%
Merely handing in assignments on time is a huge factor in getting a good grade!
Students are expected to complete all assignments with care and on time.
Graded assignments that are submitted late may be penalized.
There will also be a time limit to when assignments can be submitted.
Extra Credit
There will be extra credit questions on tests and quizzes. No extra work or assignments can be done for extra credit.
1. One 100 pg. marble notebook.
2. Pen or pencil to write with. Mrs. Esteves does not provide pens or pencils to write with.
3. Earbuds
4. Chromebook.
This digital pass is to be used whenever you need to use the restroom. There is no need to raise your hand and ask to go, simply fill out this form.
Procedure:

2. Please fill out the bathroom sign out online: E-Hall Pass
3. Place the dinosaur at your seat before you leave so that way we know who is out of the room.
