I'm Through What Can I do?

I often have bonus or enrichment activities posted on the whiteboard in our class. If your child is looking for extra activities, here are some things they have expressed interest in, but are not necessarily in the curriculum for grade 2.

Card Games:

Doubles Go Fish

    1. Shuffle the cards, each player is dealt 7 cards. Remaining cards stay in the deck in the middle.
    2. Players remove their pairs and take turns trying to make pairs from the other player’s hand by asking for a card. In order to keep the pair the player must correctly add the two numbers. If the player does not correctly “double” the number they must give the pair to the other player. If the opposing player does not have the requested card the asking player must “go fish” from the deck. Players with the most pairs at the end wins.
      1. ADDITION WAR
            1. Objective: Students will increase speed when responding to basic facts Number of Players: 2
            2. Equipment: Deck of cards
            3. Getting Started: Players divide cards evenly between themselves. Each player turns over two cards and adds them together. The highest sum gets all of the cards. In the event of a tie (i.e. each player has the same sum), WAR is declared. Each player deals out three more cards face down and then turns over two more cards. These two cards are added together. The highest sum wins all of the cards. Play continues until one player has collected all the cards.
            4. Card values are their face value, A = 1, K = 13, Example: Player 1 Player 2
            5. 2+3=5 4+1=5 War is declared!! Place 2 cards face down
            6. 4 + 3 = 7 8 + 5 = 13 Player 2 collects all of the cards.
            7. Q = 12,
            8. J = 11
            9. Variation: Vary the number of cards to modify the level of difficulty.
            10. Example: 23
            11. + 6 OR
