A MULTI-PURPOSE EVALUATION STRATEGY FOR MASTER GARDENER TRAINING PROGRAMS (2014)

    • Swackhamer, E., & N. E. Kiernan (2005). A multi-purpose evaluation strategy for Master Gardener training programs. Journal of Extension [On-line], (43)6, Article 6FEA4.

      • This resource describes an evaluation tool that assesses knowledge and confidence gained on topics taught during EMG trainings. The tool is printed as a tri-fold brochure to give a professional appearance. Students are encouraged to fill in information on a weekly basis (rather than recall rating at the end of the training). The journal article fully describes evaluation methods, and also presents methods for collating and presenting results.

WASHINGTON STATE TRAINING EVALUATION FOR USE AFTER EACH MG CLASS (2014)

    • Washington State Training Evaluation For Use After Each MG Class

      • This evaluation tool is an example of how [Swackhamer, E., & N. E. Kiernan (2005). A multi-purpose evaluation strategy for Master Gardener training programs] was put into use by another EMG Program. The tool has EMG trainees evaluate how much knowledge they gained, and how confident they feel fielding questions on various topics, for each class. Students hold onto this single review sheet until the end of training, and turn in the completed sheet at the end of class. One reviewer noted that this type of evaluation tool should be coupled with an evaluation that addresses one class at a time, and can be turned in immediately after each session, to allow for a more thorough evaluation of each class, and to limit loss of data from attrition. EMG coordinators will need to personalize this form for the training topics used in their program. The header should also be personalized to the appropriate program, making sure to give credit to Swackhamer and Kiernan (2005) as the original source.

WASHINGTON STATE EVALUATION FOR USE AFTER COMPLETING MG TRAINING (2014)

    • Washington State Evaluation For Use After Completing MG Training

      • Reviewers noted that coordinators may need to personalize items to better reflect their training program. Wording on some questions could be changed (e.g. #4 could be changed to 'I am confident that I can find research-based answers to most gardening questions).

WASHINGTON STATE EVALUATION FOR USE AFTER COMPLETING VOLUNTEER INTERNSHIP (2014)

    • Washington State Evaluation For Use After Completing Volunteer Internship

      • This resource will require personalization (e.g. header, specific prompts used) to fit local training program classes and objectives. It is a wonderful resource for assessing the longer term impacts of the Master Gardener training program on volunteer behaviors, skills and attitudes. There is also a short section on assessing economic impacts of the training. Reviewers noted that this survey is one of the most in-depth they've seen, and that it is a truly unique resource for EMG Coordinators.
