The practice of yoga makes the body strong and flexible—it uses movement, breath, and posture to establish a strong core and a healthy mind. This class is suitable for all levels and provides an opportunity to develop a yoga practice, best fitting the needs for you individually. Throughout the seminar, students will develop a knowledge base of asanas (physical postures) in various categories such as standing poses, forward folds, hip openers, seated poses, backbends, twists and inversions. Mudras (yoga of the hands), pranayama (yogic breathing), bandhas (energy gates) and meditation will also be explored, through the eight limbs of yoga. Students will examine the anatomical structure and its function, while creating a yoga practice pertaining to a specific population and its needs. They will communicate their artistic process and demonstrate appropriate alignment. Students will actively understand and apply body thinking to analyze, interpret and evaluate various yoga poses. They will make valid connections to one’s life and cultural experiences. An understanding of yoga’s role will be discovered, as the function of yoga worldwide will be explored. Multiples opportunities will be provided for students to reflect upon progress and personal growth.
