When a dancer takes the floor for the first time, the opportunities that have led to that moment might be a stand-alone experience or years of training. No matter the experience, the dance department at Étude High School offers courses placing emphasis on aesthetic understandings and training the body as an instrument of communication and expression. By performing, creating, and analyzing dance as a discipline, students use movement to develop their ability to communicate and interpret. Students explore the creative process of choreography, while examining the role of dance and its connection to other content areas. Artistic expression is developed through reflective practice and the evaluation of their own work and that of others.
