Announcements: We will review the announcements for this week! (in sidebar)
Extended Gathering: Everybody Who!
Stay Circled Up for the Extended Gathering!
There should be enough chairs in the circle for all but one person.
The person in the middle starts by saying "Everybody Who... " and then something that is true about them
If the statement is also true for you, move to a different chair. This cannot be the chair next to you, unless that is the only other person who moved.
Whoever is left without a chair shares next, and so on until everyone has had a chance to share.

Set your things at your table and circle up chairs!
Gathering: 30 Seconds of Fame Share anything you want to highlight about your weekend! we will go around the circle. If you have nothing you want to share, you may pass.
Whole Group: POL Planning - Review Habits of Mind
**Before we start, grab your advisory binder, open to the sheet that explains the Habits of Mind**
Together we will read through the description for each habit of mind (one at a time). I will ask you to show a fist to four on how you would grade yourself on that habit, and call on someone to explain why.
Habits of Observing
Habits of Wondering
Habits of Connecting
Habits of Reasoning/Interpreting
Habits of Innovating
After we have discussed each habit, think about which was your highest ranking, or your strongest habit. Why do you say that?
Transition: Head back to your table spots. I am going to pass back all of your peel the fruit reflections from classes.
Independent: Review Peel the Fruits and Write Learning Claim
Read through each of your peel the fruits
Think about: Which reflections show the strongest evidence to support your chosen habit of mind? If you are noticing that they represent a different habit of mind being your strongest, you can change your response
Once you think you have identified your strongest habit and your two academic reflections that represent it, raise your hand so I can discuss with you.
I may ask a few people to share out if we need examples
Once I have approved your choice, you can write your learning claim!
Login to Google Classroom
Click Advisory
Open the ÉMS Fall Presentation of Learning
Go to Slide 5 and write your learning claim
Example: This semester I developed my habits of wondering. This means that I asked good questions while researching which led to me learning more in depth on the topics I studied in classes. I believe having strong habits of wondering will help me in the real world because if you aren't asking questions, you can't further your understanding past what you already know. I think I will need this skill when I have a job someday as there will be a lot of new information to understand and I will need to ask questions to go more in depth.
REMINDER - DO NOT work ahead on your POL slides! You will be doing activities in class to help you gather the information you need.
Ticket Out: Put all of your Peel the Fruits in your advisory binder. Show me your Slide 5 with your habits reflection before you go!

Habits of Work
Habits of Self-Discipline
Habits of Communication
Habits of Collaboration
Habits of Learning
Here are some examples of what success or struggle in each habit might look like...
EXAMPLE: I think I have been successful with habits of self discipline. I say this because I am focused in classes during independent time. In math, I always learn a lot of skills on ALEKS days because I use my time wisely.
EXAMPLE: I have struggled with habits of work. I usually get to class on time but I often don't have the things I need, like my charged Chromebook.
Independent: POL Habits Reflection
After reviewing which habits you feel strongly about and which you may be struggling with, you will have time to write a habits reflection in your POL slides. Parent signup for POLs will open on Monday, November 3rd
Trimester 1 POLs are November 24th (half day) and November 25th (full day)

Whole Group: Today we will work as an advisory to decide what we want to do with the school community when we host town hall. Town hall activities on Community Building weeks should be activities that require each member of an advisory to participate in some way. This can be a competitive activity, or just a community building activity without competition involved. The goal is to build community within your advisory and as a school through shared experiences. Examples of things we have done before include...
Task Wheel (complete as many tasks as you can)
Silent Scavenger Hunt
Build Challenges (egg drop, build the tallest tower, etc)
Minute to Win It
Holiday themed activities (depending on time of year)
These are just a few ideas, but any activity that requires all to participate and work on collaboration and communication works!
Here is the town hall agenda template to keep in mind as you are deciding on activities. (do not edit this one, make a copy!) It may help for us to brainstorm activities first, then vote as a group. We can fill out the agenda part when it gets closer to our town hall hosting date. (advisors, develop a structure for how you want to run this part with your group - trash talk ideas/quick jot and think pair share, etc)
Here is the hosting schedule, so you know what date your group will be hosting Town Hall! Advisors, please send me your idea once you have it developed.

This is the school policy so we can focus on learning while in class!

Developing Lunch Expectations: On Thursday, we will start eating lunch in the cafeteria as a whole school. In order to make sure that this is a comfortable space to eat for all students, we are going to work as an advisory to review the expectations that were developed last year and make any adjustments as needed. At town hall on Wednesday, any additions or changes your advisory wants to propose will be presented so we can finalize expectations prior to Thursday's lunch time.
Now we will develop other expectations or options we think would help make lunch enjoyable for all students!
Independent [5 min] On a whiteboard or piece of scratch paper, brainstorm guidelines you think should be followed during lunch time in the cafeteria. What should you be able to do? What should not be allowed? What would make that time more enjoyable for you?
Mix and Mingle [2 min] Get up and walk around the room. Share your ideas with a partner when I say mingle. Once you have both shared, you can head back to your seats.
Share Out [10 min] I will call on each person to share out their ideas. We will then review the lunch expectations from last year and see if there are any things we listed that should be added, or if there are any existing expectations we would like to change.
Advisors - Please email Mrs Kissinger your list of your proposed changes by the end of the day!

What do you feel you can contribute to the group, or individuals in the group?
What do you need from me as an advisor to feel supported and held accountable?
We will go around and each person will share a response. I will write them on the board as you are sharing.

What are some resources available to you to use that help you find out this information at school? What are the purposes of each of these? We will brainstorm as a group and then look over some that are available to all students.

Purple Planner: All students should be bringing their planners to each class and using it daily! Together we will look through the planner so we know how to best use it.
When should you write assignments in your planner?
How will you remember to check it?
Google Keep: If you prefer to use technology to organize your things, you can use google keep which is in the google apps. If I notice you are not staying organized, I will require you to use your paper planner. Open google keep and create the following, or set up a way to organize your work:

Don’t forget to bookmark Google Keep on the Bookmarks Bar!
Ticket Out: Email your advisor - do you plan to use your planner or google keep to organize your deadlines and tasks? I will be communicating this with your parent/guardian, as well as sending them a link to the resource calendar!
FRIDAY
Reflection & Extended Gathering
As you enter, please circle up chairs and leave anything you brought at your table.
Gathering Prompt: High, Low, Potato!
Think back on the first two weeks of school. What was your high, or favorite/best moment? What was a low, or worst moment? What is your potato... something that was just in the middle? Turn and talk to share all with your partner, then we will go around the circle and have each person choose one thing to share.
Extended Gathering: Name Juggle
I have five soft objects for us to throw. We’re going to establish a pattern of tossing and catching the object. I will say a student’s name and then toss the object underhand to her. That student will then say another student’s name and toss the object to him. You need to remember who tossed the object to you and who you tossed the object to. You will always catch the object from the same person and always throw to the same person. We will do this a couple of times using one object to establish the pattern. After you have practiced with one object then introduce another object. The goal is to see how many objects we can juggle as a group. We will pause throughout to reflect on what is working and what is not working!
Group Reflection: What helped us accomplish our goal? What made it harder to accomplish our goal? How do these things apply to your classes?
Ticket Out: Share an excitement you have for this weekend!
