Objectives
Primary objectives
Primary objectives are to:
Estimate the burden of laboratory-confirmed pertussis in hospitalised infants aged less than one year in terms of:
incidence per 100,000 infants
severity of confirmed cases, case fatality and mortality rates
Estimate pertussis vaccine effectiveness against hospitalisation for laboratory confirmed pertussis in infants aged less than one year
Define a model for sentinel surveillance of pertussis in the EU/EEA
Secondary objectives
Potential secondary objectives include to:
Estimate the association between pertussis vaccination in mothers and being hospitalised for laboratory confirmed pertussis in infants aged less than one year
Estimate the association between breastfeeding, father and siblings’ vaccination, number of siblings, underlying conditions, other risk factors and being hospitalised for laboratory confirmed pertussis in infants aged less than one year
Identify the most likely source of infection for infants aged less than one year (mother, father, siblings, etc.)
Estimate pertussis vaccine effectiveness against hospitalisation for laboratory confirmed pertussis in infants aged less than one year, by
