Make sure that:
You have a TA printing account set up (most likely Dr. Delson will have this done for you)
You print from a student computer so you don't have to worry about the print drivers
Check the print before actually printing it:
- Sign into remote printing with your TA print account info and select printer ‘cplot1_np’
You will need to keep your browser/this page open the entire time!/
This is the virtual printer to which lets you see a print preview and verify your poster will come out right.
cplot1_np will do a virtual 'no print' for paper 36'' wide
You can view these prints here: http://cplot.ucsd.edu/~lp/cplot1_np/
Pull up the PowerPoint document with the poster and double check that it is at the correct dimensions
Design tab -> Page Setup -> (42'' wide x 36'' high)
Select print in PowerPoint
Select printer ‘HP Designjet T1100ps (print.ucsd.edu)’. This is the ACS printing queue.
Select 'Properties’
Choose the ‘Advanced’ Tab
Select ‘Paper/Output’
For the ‘Paper size’ select ‘Post script Custom Page Size'
Change the width and height to 36in x 42in (NOT 42x36)!!!!( This is because your poster will be printed from left to right)
Just ignore the warning messages
Select TrueType Font
Choose "Download as Softfont"
Print the document
Since Powerpoint has the ACS printing queue selected (HP Designjet T1100ps) and you're signed into the virtual printer(cplot1_np) that is where your print will go.
http://cplot.ucsd.edu/~lp/cplot1_np/
Sort by last modified to see your print job at the top, it will take a few moments to transfer the data.
By clicking on your job it will show you an image of the print
You have to do this every time you want to print something. It is what they use to verify they didn't mess up your print job if you complain to them.
Printing the poster:
Go back to the remote printing page and select ‘cplot1’ for plain paper (for the first draft**) or ‘cplot1_hg36’ for high gloss paper (Final poster)
Assuming you haven't closed PowerPoint, you will already have the right poster dimensions, be on the correct printer, and have the correct printing dimensions selected.
Just hit print in PowerPoint
This time PowerPoint has the ACS printing queue selected (HP Designjet T1100ps) but you're signed into the actual printer (cplot1) and that is where your print will go.
Check that your jobs have gone through here: http://cplot.ucsd.edu/lp-cgi-bin/checkqueue.cgi or http://acms.ucsd.edu/info/cplotqueue.html
IMPORTANT: before printing the poster you must contact ACS at 858-534-4097 to let them know you are sending a printing job so they can put it through to the printer. Make sure you have your printing account user name ready. ACS says it may take up to 3 business days to print, so plan ahead!
Pick up the document at ACS (AP&M building first floor)
** For the first draft you should print 4 posters per 42x36 sheet. This can be done in powerpoint by opening a new blank powerpoint page and making the dimensions 42x36. Then for each poster temporarily change the dimensions to 21x18, then copy and paste the whole poster into the new blank page. Carefully arrange 4 posters on the new page to make sure none are getting cut off and print this document as described above. Sometimes weird formatting stuff will happen when shrinking the students' posters down. Don't waste your time trying to fix this, just print it out and explain to them the final one will come out correctly.
