Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Came up with new brake concept (Jonathan & Kelli):
Bearing would be placed on center rod and mounted between rotating basket and fixed base plate. Upon reaching a high velocity, the large mass will move outward, lowering the brake towards the fixed plate.
Baseplate on caster wheels with lazy susan currently going through final design steps. (Annie & Yuji)
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Designed a new brake (Jonathan & Kelli)
Base plate design dimensions were modeled and finalized (Yuji & Annie)
Finalized list of parts to be ordered (Everyone)
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Collect list of parts and put orders in (Jonathan)
Finish any remaining design changes needed on CAD models (Yuji & Annie)
Finalize brake design specifications (i.e: material, mass, measurements, angles) (Jonathan & Kelli)
Begin final fabrication of cart (Everyone)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Approved team to present design concept to vivarium and CAEP supervisors at meeting on 02/22.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Suggested looking into nickel plated stainless steel fasteners to address rusting
Suggested figuring out a way to measure the velocity at which cart rotates in wash.
Said that team should design the brake ourselves (finding something off the shelf for this specific function would be very difficult)
Safety Considerations:
look into tipping standards
drafting standards
