156B Week 3
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
ECE team began working with myoelectrics
first myoelectric broke after soldering, new one ordered (04/12) (Bonggeun Jang)
Tested two different finger designs to determine optimal design
Second iteration of finger design completed
First iteration of palm/finger set up design completed
Accomplishments from Previous Week
All digits for hand have been designed (Erik, Michael)
Rough CAD of palm interface (Estelle, Erik)
Began design for elbow positive feedback mechanism (Maris)
Ordered servo motors (04/11) (Michael, Estelle)
Ordered braided fishing line (200 lb test) (04/13) (Estelle)
Met with Colin Keef from ECE department to see his take on a prosthetic arm and to ask sensor/motor information (Estelle, Maris, Michael)
Met with ECE group and discussed further progress on motors and myoelectric equipment (Estelle, Erik)
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Complete first prototype of hand with digits (Erik, Estelle)
Complete first iteration of elbow positive feedback mechanism (Maris)
Meet with sponsor/family and discuss design proposal (Estelle, Michael, Erik, Maris)
Test myoelectrics on Gabby's muscle groups and see if this option is viable (Sponsor cancelled last week) (ECE team)
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Bigger Budget and Bigger Group (Prof. T)
We now have ~$2200
Do it all! Began looking into voice activation as a valid option for control and elbow design (4/10)
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Meet with Colin Keeth to discuss sensors and electronics of prosthetic (Matt)
Met with Colin Keeth (4/12)
Is a wealth of information for ECE part of the project (did all the PCB design, coding, filtering, sensor work for his robotic arm). Recommended OshPark for PCB manufacturing. Particle boards for wifi/cellular network connection involved in voice activation.
Meet with graduate student working on prosthetics in the same lab (Aaron Gunn)
Still trying to schedule meeting time (4/13)
Risks and Areas of Concern
Viability of myoelectrics -> where will they have to be placed? Will they produce a large enough signal to utilize? Can we differentiate between different signals for different modes of actuation
Elbow actuated assist
Will we be able to make the end solution something that Gabby can slip on herself?
Schedule
Design elbow positive feedback mechanism (4/22)
Have desired motors chosen (4/22)
Choose sensors (4/19)
Hand with Digits 1st prototype (4/22)
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
Spent: $133.8
Amount Remaining: $2066.12
