Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Analysis:
Analysis of major components completed
Completed analysis/selection of motor and motor driver, controller, frame materials, scaled canopy, bearings, paraglider lines,
Design:
Design entering final stages
Completed 3D CAD Model of design iteration to be fabricated
Fabrication:
Completed fabrication of PVC Hanging Rig
Awaiting arrival of parts to begin fabrication process of weight shifting mechanism
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Developed complete design of linear slider weight shifting mechanism
Determined which components of prototype will be 3D Printed, Lasercut, fabricated in Machine shop, and purchased pre-fabricated
Geometrically determined angle and length of lines
Selected and purchased materials to be used for prototype
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Have parts in by early next week
Begin writing code for beaglebone (Alejandro)
Lasercut support pieces for linear slider (Kaveen)
Fabricate aluminum brackets to be used in weight shifting mechanism (Mingyi)
3D print the support attachment which will house bearings and will support weight to be moved across rails (Miguel)
Create model and 3D print timing pulleys for weight shifting (Alejandro) and brake line actuation (Kaveen)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Aerodynamic characteristics of system should be done by creating a simple nose to attach to front of frame. Consider using scrap nylon sheets from the gliderport (4/14/17)
Recommended use of geometric analysis for determining line length for scaled model (4/14/17)
We should all visit the gliderport and take some time to watch the paragliders in flight. Watching the pilots will give us a batter understanding of the forces at work and the wing response with different inputs (4/14/17)
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Deformation of PVC hanging rig under stress seems too low (4/12/17)
Linear slider looks over-constrained and may cause binding. This issue has been addressed by using two bearings instead of four (4/12/17)
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Good analysis and 3-D CAD models, good progress since risk reduction (4/12/17)
Need to work on oral presentation skills (4/12/17)
Risks and Areas of Concern
Parts taking too long to ship
Validate strength of hook in Machine Shop for hanging rig attachment
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Specs for scaled paraglider could not be obtained, due to communication barrier.
