Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
From email: "I think the 2 kg is too small since there may also be other equipment. Perhaps we should take a look at that a little more closely next time we meet."
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Consider non-metal lead screws (3/19)
aluminum is acceptable, plastic lead screws may exist
Winch design could have an encoder on wheel, driven by cable with no or one wrap (3/19)
Include photos of test setup, close-up of current setup (3/19)
Will take photos at next meeting with sponsor
Show graphs/scales on x and y axis (3/19)
Data was given but units for y-axis is [%, percentage] and x-axis is [milliseconds]
Summarize what you learned from experiments (3/19)
Stepper motors and brush-less motors are okay, stepper motors are better but need to be secured
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Implement a laser range finder instead of an encoder if stepper motor skips counts (3/19)
depending on the speed and distance of object being tracked, maximum accuracy is within several millimeters, which is not accurate enough for our system
Integrate grounding option in electronics as an "off" switch for RF interference (3/19)
May want to use encoders to make sure you don't miss steps (3/19)
encoder option is being explored
Look into IGUS sliders (3/19)
good alternative to T-slot option, IGUS also has 'leadscrew tables' option, which looks similar to what we want
Risks and Areas of Concern
Establish parameters such as sample weight, speed and time
Vibration, Friction
