Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
● Finalization of prototype on Solidworks with sponsor and order prototype.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
● Final testing of 15 vs 30 degree tilt of fans and effect on noise
● Testing of fan RPM/CFM using oscilloscope & bag technique.
● Final model of prototype drafted on Solidworks.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
● Assemble prototype. (All)
● Thermal/Pressure/CFM testing of final prototype. (All)
● Receive budget sheet from sponsor and include in final report (Brandon)
● Make modifications on Final Report (Peter)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
● SW edits aesthetic and dimensioning edits
○ fan guides made with a max tolerance of .01” down from .03”
○ larger rectangular holes, upped .125” from previous model
○ modified all exterior holes to be of size 4 countersink or 4-40 tapped
○ pci-e housing filled in gap between the housing and back pieces
○ rearranged hole locations to make it aligned and more aesthetically pleasing
○ added grommet locations to reduce the weight of the steel panels
○ increased the overall length of some of the inner panels to isolate air flow
○ added some cuts to angled pieces so that they are identical and this reduces the number of unique parts needed for fabrication
○ placed holes on angular piece so that it is fully constrained
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
● Use 3rd output wire to test fans out
○ Wire had reading for the 80mm but not for the 92 mm.
○ Used oscilloscope to test the readings.
○ some of the fans actually did not output any reading
● use of a tachometer
○ product specified with it was not included in the packaging
● using different voltage levels to see if Sunon can compete with Noctua
○ tried and tested them at different levels, Sunon has an overall worse dB:CFM ratio
Risks and Areas of Concern
● Time constraint since 1-2 week lead time for testing
Schedule
● Order prototype.
● Work on report/website/poster.
Progress on Report and Webpage
● uploaded all files used/sent to sponsor on the project
● fleshing out thought processes/procedures/setups for testing
● adding the most recent results and comparing how we came to where we are over the course of the quarter
