Goff Middle School Places 5th at Science Olympiad State Championships – Posted April 22, 2015

The Howard L. Goff Middle School Science Olympiad team continued its tradition of success this weekend when it placed fifth in the state championships in Syracuse, N.Y. Just 35 teams out of 233 middle schools even qualified for the state championships.

“It’s been a privilege for me to work with such dedicated and talented students this year,” said head coach Linda Pavlick. “I am so proud of their performances, both individually and as a team. The support we’ve received from the District and the parents were outstanding. I thank you all.”

The students won medals in 11 of 25 events, totaling 23 medals. Students that received medals were:

Ninth Graders:

  • Allie Radin – 5 medals
  • Fritz Howard – 3 medals
  • Abby Radin – 2 medals
  • Peter Sergay – 2 medals
  • Neil Laya – 1 medal

Eighth Graders:

  • Adam DiCesare – 2 medals
  • Sam Koblensky – 2 medals
  • Sydney Lemire – 1 medal
  • Kate Burns – 1 medal
  • George Culver – 1 medal
  • Kelly Nagel – 1 medal
  • Nadia Sabo – 1 medal

Seventh Grader:

  • Owen Ball – 1 medal

The team was coached by Linda Pavlick, John Cirincione, Shawn Yearsley and Program Assistant Donnamarie Vlieg.

The Goff Middle School team advanced to the state championships by winning the Hudson Valley Regional Championship on March 21 at Monroe-Woodbury Middle School in Central Valley, N.Y.

Goff Middle School Wins Science Olympiad Regional; Advances to State Championship – Posted March 26, 2015

The Howard L. Goff Middle School Science Olympiad team won the Hudson Valley Regional Championship on Saturday at Monroe-Woodbury Middle School in Central Valley, N.Y. By winning the regional tournament, they have qualified for the New York State Championships which will be held on April 17 and 18 at Minoa High School in East Syracuse, N.Y.

This is the second Science Olympiad team from the District to compete in a state championship this year. Columbia’s team, which recruits students from Goff as they get older, recently won the state championship and advanced to the national championships.

Goff Middle School placed third in last year’s state championship.

At the regional tournament this past weekend, Goff’s team defeated nine other schools and earned 43 medals (13 gold, 11 silver, 7 bronze, 12 fourth through sixth place).

“This team has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to learning, facing new challenges and working together,” said head coach Linda Pavlick. “Their accomplishments honor the East Greenbush School District, Goff Middle School, Columbia High School and the wonderful support received from their parents.”

Goff’s team is comprised of 27 students.
