Overview of a Reading Workshop

The best way to become a better reader is to read each and every day. So, during Reading Workshop in our classroom, students have time each day to practice, practice, practice! Reading Workshop in our classroom consists of the following: a daily focus mini-lesson, independent reading with individual reading conferences, and small group guided reading sessions. 

In addition, at least once a day we have Word Work time. This is when we focus on a particular phonics skill, spelling strategy or grammar rule. This is either done with the whole group, small groups or during our AIS time. Children may be in a small group with me or our reading teacher, Mrs. Frugis. 

My biggest goal..... first graders love to read!
