7th Grade Social Studies

Social Studies Curriculum We will take the first trimester of the school year to study different cultures from the Middle Ages, including:  Japan, Europe and Islamic cultures. The next two trimesters of the year will focus on Washington State history.  Here we will become familiar with the geography, people, culture and history of our fabulous state.

12/14/18 - Booklet due by end of class or no later than first thing on Monday.
12/13/18 - Continue working on booklet.
12/12/18 - Start reading Ch. 1 lesson 2 and begin 5 Regions of WA booklet.
12/11/18 - View documentary about the physical features of WA. Take notes in composition books.
12/10/18 - Finish lesson 1.
12/7/18 - Read ch. 1 lesson 1 and take notes.
12/6/18 - Finish scavenger hunt.
12/5/18 - Map pre-test, Start Washington Journey textbook scavenger hunt.

12/3/18 - Return World History textbooks to library and check out Washington State textbooks. Present world religions projects.
11/30/18 - Last day to work on presentation. Due during class period.
11/29/18 - Continue with research  on three world religions and making presentation.
11/28/18 - Continue with research  on three world religions and start making presentation.
11/27/18 - Complete research on Islam - worksheet. Link for World religion assignment due Friday:

11/26/18 - Essay due today!  You can't turn it in past Wednesday. Start researching three major world religions: Christianity, Buddhism and Islam.
11/20/18 - Finish up essay. Due Monday November 26,
11/19/18 - Work on Compare/ Contrast essay  about the Middle Ages in Europe and Japan.  
11/9/18 - Finish model manor project. Due no later than the start of class on Tuesday.
11/8/18 - Start on project, "Build a Model Manor."
11/7/18 - Read ch. 9 lesson 2 and take notes.
11/6/18 - In small groups, work on Making Connections poster to link terms we have been studying.
11/5/18 - Complete videos and take notes.
11/2/18 - Discuss the social structure in the middle ages. Start video on the life of the Noble. 
11/1/18 - Finish reading lesson 1 and taking notes. If finished early, complete lesson review questions 3-9.
10/31/18 - Read Ch. 9 lesson 1 and start taking notes.
10/30/18 - Finish Map.
10/29/18 - Create Map of Europe in the Middle Ages.
10/26/18 - Starting with a story. Read a Knights Story and write a friendly letter from their perspective.
10/24/18 - Finish Ch. 8 test
10/23/18 - Ch. 8 test, open notes, not open book.
10/19/18 - Play Japan Bingo to learn vocabulary. Study for test on Tuesday.
10/18/18 - Finish documentary and 15 minutes to study for chapter test on Tuesday.
10/17/18 - Watch documentary on Samurai
10/16/18 - Finish lesson 3 notes. Create Feudalism chart
10/15/18 - Read Ch. 8 lesson 3 and take notes.
10/12/18 - Create haiku poetry and try Japanese style painting.
10/11/18 - Create mask in the Japanese style to go with theater summary.
10/10/18 - Finish up video on Japanese theater and then write summary of each type.
10/9/18 - View 3 short videos on Japanese theater and take notes.
10/5/18 - Finish reading and taking notes on lesson 2.
10/4/18 - Documentaries on the two main religions in Japan with notes. Start reading Ch. 8 lesson 2.
10/3/18 - Complete lesson 1 review questions 3-7. Experience a taste of Japan.
10/2/18 - Read Ch. 8 lesson 1 and take notes.
10/1/18 - Finish Map of Japan.
9/28/18 - Create Map of Japan.
9/27/18 - Start Japan Unit. Start with a story and write a friendly letter about the training of a Samurai. 
9/26/18 - Quiz over sources. Ch. 1 Review.
9/25/18 - Finish reading lesson 4. Create poster with small group connecting the major terms in chapter 1. Practice secondary and primary sources for quiz tomorrow.
9/24/18 - Start reading ch. 1 lesson 4 and taking notes with partner.
9/21/18 - Finish artifact presentations.
9/20/18 - Present Artifacts.
9/19/18 - Finish reading lesson 3. Start artifact project. Write paragraph and present tomorrow.
9/18/18 - Start reading ch. 1 lesson 3 and take notes.
9/17/18 - Work on Map Skills from textbook, page 22.
9/14/18 - Finish presentations. Quiz on geography skills.
9/13/18 - Presentations on project.
9/12/18 - Last day to work on project.
9/11/18 - 5 Themes of Geography project. Due Wednesday.
9/10/18 - 5 Themes of Geography project.
9/7/18 - Continue reading and taking notes for lesson 1.
9/6/18 - Start reading ch. 1 and taking notes.
9/5/18 - Geography pre-test and review.
9/4/18 - Create class norms.
8/31/18 - Explore google maps and complete activity entitled, "My Happy Place" found in your google drive.
8/30/18  -Continue to learn about procedures and complete a student survey. Check out textbooks.
8/29/18 - Welcome back to school. Pass out parent letter - Due Friday
