About TEL Design Team

Technological tools are dramatically transforming what it means to learn in the 21st century. Web 2.0 technologies enable participants in communities not only to share ideas but also to co-create artifacts in various media, from text co-authoring to movie making. Mobile phones and tablet devices enable participation in communities in which participants are geographically distributed. They also enable participation anytime and anywhere, from the cue to the dentist to a trip in the Himalaya’s. Social networking platforms enable individuals with common interests to group together to create meaningful communities. These technologies not only change the most basic notions of what it means to learn, they also redefine what it means to intervene within learning processes, and to design technology-enhanced environments that take advantage of such tools to advance learning in different disciplines and in various educational contexts. The Technology-enhanced learning, teaching and design (TEL-design) research group, headed by Yael Kali at the University of Haifa, explores these new notions of learning and teaching, as part of the Learning In a Networked Society (LINKS) Israeli Center of Research Excellence (I-CORE) , with a special emphasis on the interplay between theory, design and practice in technology-enhanced learning.
