Daily 5

We have many exciting, new things planned for third graders! Along with our daily Language Arts instruction, we will continue using The Daily 5 this year. Many students may already be familiar with The Daily 5 from previous grades. The Daily 5 is a literacy structure that teaches independence and gives children the skills needed for a lifetime love of reading and writing. One skill that we will focus on starting on the 1st day of school is how to select a "good-fit" book. We will be using a method called: I-PICK. You can use the I-PICK method at home in order to help your student find a "good-fit" book.

Each student will have his or her own book box which will hold their "good-fit" books. In the coming days, students will be given opportunities to select books from our classroom library and from the school library. In order to begin filling our book boxes, I am asking that each student select 1-2 "good-fit" books from home to bring in on the first day of school/beginning of the year. As we begin practicing routines for Daily 5 and building our reading stamina, students will have opportunities to read those books.
