General Policies and Procedures

Entering the Classroom

Students are expected to enter the room quietly, place phones in the backpacks, and place backpacks in the back of the room. Students will then quietly start the “Bell Work” assignment. Students may key/ID exchange for pencils, sharpen pencils, etc. during this time. Once I have greeted the class at the front of the room, students will be expected to give the lesson their full effort and attention.

Attendance

Students are expected to attend all classes, unless excused – on time, with materials for the class including compass/protractor, writing utensils (pencils preferred), textbooks if applicable, and notebooks.

Absences

Students with an excused absence may make up work within a reasonable amount of time. The extension, with exceptions for extreme emergencies, will be one school day for every day missed. Students with UNEXCUSED absences will turn in the work the day they return to class, failure to do so will result in a zero that cannot be made up. Students removed or suspended are still responsible for their work during the time missed. In any case, if work is not turned in on time, the work will be scored a zero.

Materials

Students are responsible for replacement of their own missing materials; a fee equal to the cost of a new textbook will be assessed to students for damaged or missing textbooks.

Prohibited/Electronic Items

This campus allows students to bring their own electronic devices to school. Phones should be on vibrate and placed in backpacks at all times. “Fidget Spinners” are prohibited. Chewing/Bubble gum is prohibited, per campus rules. Clear water bottles are allowed and highly encouraged/recommended by teacher, but clean up your own mess. Additional prohibited Items are listed in the student handbook. Any unauthorized usage may result in referral for disciplinary actions; any student that is uncooperative will receive a referral for insubordination.

Dismissal

Students are to leave class and not loiter when class has ended so that they may get to their next classes on time. Students may be required to pick up/clean up before dismissal.

Hallways

No “horse playing,” excessive noise, running or any other activity that endangers health, safety, or welfare of students and staff is allowed.

Behavior Plan

All students are expected to display a reasonable level of maturity, respect, and patience with all other students and all staff at all times. When students are disruptive or off task, the following steps may be implemented by me as appropriate.

1) Redirection in a helpful, assertive fashion.

2) Redirection addressing specific activity, corrective actions, and possible consequences.

3) Students may be moved to another area of the classroom, where students may be asked to stand/sit until the student can rejoin the class. Any reasonable action that addresses the behavior of the student may be initiated. Should the student behavior be disruptive, the student may be removed to another classroom to complete assignments.

4) Referral/Removal from classroom with appropriate consequences in accordance to school and district policies, as determined by staff or administration.

Restroom Privileges

Restrooms are to be used between classes. Exceptions will be made on a reasonable basis. However, abuse of this policy may result in revocation of this privilege. Students are to sign in/out on the Log book. Failure to sign in/out, or inappropriate behavior while using this privilege, may result in loss of this privilege.

Medical Emergencies

Permission to leave the class for a medical emergency shall be granted for the student to report to the school nurse. Further disposition of the student will be made by the school nurse or front office staff, unless the student is returned to class. Should the student be returned to class, the student will be expected to complete the assigned work, with a reasonable extension at my discretion.

Interim reports and report cards

These will be distributed at times determined in accordance with district policy.

Academic Policies

Cheating

See course syllabus. Students are expected to complete their own assignments on time. Students that present another’s work as their own, or who copy another student’s work are considered to have “plagiarized” their “work.” The use of notes, calculators, peds, etc., is not allowed unless stipulated by IEP, unless expressed permissions are given by the instructor. In any event, the student shall receive a "zero" for a grade with no retake allowed.

The mere possession of a prohibited electronic device (cellphones, smartphones, etc.) during a testing period will be considered cheating, with a referral for prohibited electronic device.
