Gail Gibbons Activity
The students have been learning all about the author, Gail Gibbons. This activity was all about comprehension. The students were read the book "The Honey Maker" by Gail Gibbons. The students had to using their listening and critical thinking skills because while they were listening they were given the task to remember a few facts they learned from what they heard from the book. With this activity, the students were able to show some of their tech skills while learning more about Gail Gibbons. They were then given the task to type a few facts they were able to remember from the book within a Google Slide. They had to write complete sentences. They also had to insert an image that went with the story, and if time they were able to add a background color. The students were only given one 30 minute session to complete this activity. (if absent did not do)
The students are given a writer's organizer to fill out ideas on a topic. They need to fill out the organizer to help write their pieces. They come to the lab and do all the typing and write their writing pieces. This will be a project the students will be working on all year, so you will notice that at times a writing piece isn't complete because they are currently working on it. Each writing assignment within their Journal Writing Google slides file, the students have the ability to add an image that goes along with their writing. The students use an editing checklist to edit their work before moving on to the next writing piece.
Students were given a book on a famous person. Their challenge were to read through the book and find key facts that they had to write down within an organizer. The facts they collected will be information they had to use during a live wax museum presentation in front of an audience. The students then had to organize all their information by writing complete sentences within Google slides that they used as a visual for them and their audience during the wax museum presentation.
