General Assignment Information

Here are some general assignment schedules for the year:

Spelling packets are assigned on Fridays and due the following Tuesday. Pretests are on Wednesdays with the actual test on Fridays. If they earn a 100% on the pretest, they don't have to take the test on Friday.

Vocabulary sheets are assigned on Fridays and due the following Wednesday (DO NOT put these off to the last minute. They take some time to come up with sentences that use details to show the students understand the words' meanings).

A 13-question reading test is given on Thursday each week. These tests include the eight vocabulary words for the week and five comprehension questions from the weekly story.

The students will work on writing skills each week. Some weeks will involve a short journal with other weeks working on specific skills with long writings that will cover two or so weeks.

There is a grammar packet every week except when there is a unit test in reading. They will usually have one page per night. DO NOT work ahead because we grade each page the next day to help the students see what they struggled with before doing that night's homework. They will have two pages on Thursday so they can turn in the packet on Friday. The packet will be two grades (one for the first three pages and one for the two review pages).

The students have math, science, and social studies homework most nights. The science homework is a packet of about 10 questions per lesson. The social studies homework stays in their practice books until the end of each chapter and is one grade for all of the lessons with a separate grade for the study guide. You MUST use the textbooks to look up the answers for science and social studies homework.
