THS-ST2 is time allocated to working on the thesis; hence, the major event for THS-ST2 is a demonstration of your progress with the thesis panel. The thesis group should aim to prove to the panel that they have made substantial work on their thesis based on the THS-ST2 Agreement Form submitted as a final deliverable for THS-ST1.
The THS-ST2 demonstration is an event set between the thesis group and the panel -- through the coordination of the thesis adviser. Given DLSU's current online mode of delivery, the demonstration of progress may be conducted through a live online meeting or via a recording. This decision is made by the panel in consideration with the thesis group. The Q&A portion is still encouraged to be live.
For an updated list of tasks and their deadlines for the term, please see Current THSST Schedule.
Coordination for a Demonstration
The thesis group reaches out to the panel (including the adviser) and requests for a schedule.
In the email, the thesis group should include a consolidation of their schedules to make things easier for the panel to determine an appropriate date.
Thesis groups are highly encouraged to use www.when2meet.com to convey their schedules.
If there are issues with using when2meet, please utilize the consolidated schedule template found in the Downloads section of the THSST site.
The thesis group does not need to wait for the deadline to send off a request for demonstration.
After which, the thesis adviser takes lead role in coordinating with the panel and the thesis group in terms of determining a date and time slot.
The adviser and panel are responsible for determining the manner of how the group is to conduct their demonstration (e.g. live demo via Zoom, recording). However, the Q&A portion is highly encouraged to be live for a better facilitation of any questions. Consideration should be given to the students based on their situations.
The adviser and panel should inform the thesis group with ample time to prepare.
Once a date and time slot have been determined, the adviser should take charge of informing all members of the panel and the thesis group regarding how the meeting is to take place (e.g. sending a Google Calendar invite w/ a Zoom link).
It is also encouraged to include a copy of the THS-ST2 agreement form to refresh expectations in terms of deliverables.
Demonstration Proper
The group should coordinate with the thesis adviser regarding how they are to conduct the demonstration.
Regardless of performing software development or basic research (or a mix), the group should showcase everything they've done in the term and structure their demonstration based on the THS-ST2 agreement form.
After the demonstration, the adviser and panel should deliberate (whether live or over email) regarding the grade of the thesis group.
The adviser and panel are asked to accomplish the THS-ST2 grade form.
Signatures and grade assignments may either be included in the form itself or be evident in an email thread. Should grades and endorsements be given via email, please make sure to document these through screenshots.
Once a grade has been determined, the adviser (w/ or w/o the panel) should inform the group of their grade.
Submission of THS-ST2 Deliverables
The thesis group should submit a conference paper to their adviser that details their current work.
This conference paper does not have a strict format, but should at least be in a format that is accepted within their area in CS.
If the adviser does not have a recommended format in mind, the group can default to using the ACM 2 column format.
If the adviser endorses the conference paper, the thesis adviser takes charge of submitting the final deliverables for the group.
The adviser is asked to submit the THS-ST2 grade form, endorsed conference paper, and any documentation / screenshots deemed necessary for the documentation.
Submission should be done via the THS-ST2 Final Requirements Submission Page (a Google Forms page).
THS-ST2 Grade Encoding
After the period for THS-ST2 demonstrations, the thesis coordinator would review all documents submitted via the submission page.
If there are any concerns, the coordinator would reach out to the thesis adviser.
If there are no issues, the thesis coordinator would eventually encode the grades specified in each groups' respective THS-ST2 grade form to MLS once encoding period begins.
