Information for Student Athletes

It is important for prospective student-athletes to engage actively in the college search and selection process and to consider, as every student should, all of the factors that might make a college a good fit for them, looking beyond any one factor, such as athletics, that may be especially important to their college experience. There may be a number of colleges that have appealing athletic programs, yet some may not fit the student in other important aspects such as academic and social environments, setting, location, and size of the college. Students may participate in athletics in college at a variety of levels, including NCAA Divisions 1, 2, or 3, NAIA college athletics, club, or intramural sports. For a more complete discussion about college admissions and athletics, please see your college counselor at DLS.

For students who may participate in college athletics at the Divsion 1 or 2 level of the NCAA, they must go through the eligibility process, starting at the end of junior year. At that time, students should register with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
