The PSHE programme at Devonport High School for Boys uses the PSHE Association, Unifrog and CDI frameworks to provide out students in Year 7-11 with an enriching
The scheme of work is broken down into 6 key themes based broadly on the PSHE Association programme of study, the CDI framework for careers and additional topics required by statute or that form part of the provision.

Year 7 explores what it means to be British; respectful relationships & friendships; Internet safety and harms; an introduction to careers development using Unifrog; health, prevention & First Aid (delivered by the Red Cross); and mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Year 8 also cover a range of topics within the six themes: British diversity; our Compassionate Community (a unit based on the St Luke’s compassionate school project); risks associated with online use and media; building on their career path ideas; the dangers of drugs, alcohol and tobacco; promoting positive physical health, fitness and healthy eating.
Year 9 have themes that will build on their topics from KS3 including: the history of Plymouth and the role of the slave trade; modern families; the risks of online content including pornography; next steps & preparing for work experience; being safe in relationships including consent; changing adolescent body and self-checking.
Year 10 explore crime & punishment in the United Kingdom; creating and maintaining positive relationships; my identity - including the Equality Act; budgeting for my future and how to save; intimate and sexual relationships & contraception - with one lesson each term delivered by an external agency (The Zone); the impact of gaming on adolescents, which also looks at gambling and micro-transactions.
Finally Year 11 expressed their wish to cover topics they felt were important to them and hadn’t been covered enough in previous years, so they are now learning about: how to vote in the UK and how to register as a voter; the impact of social influences on their lives; considering how their digital footprint could affect their future; how to apply for mortgages and pensions; safer sexual relationships; and exam stress and mental wellbeing in preparation for mock exams and the summer GCSE season.
