School Nursing is a specialized practice of nursing that protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. School Nurse Consultants bridge health care and early childeducation, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to provide the support that allows students and communities to develop to their fullest potential (National Association of School Nurses, 2017).
My philosophy is directed toward the early academic success of students through a healthy lifestyle by maintaining a healthy mind, body, and spirit. In turn, academic success is an excellent indicator for the overall well-being of youth and a primary predictor and determinant of adult health outcomes. Leading national education organizations recognize the relationship between health and education, as well as the need to embed health into the educational environment for all students.
School health and nutrition interventions have been shown to improve not only children’s soundness but also their learning potential and life choices in the short-and long-term.
