About Me

Welcome to Copper Mesa Elementary! CME is a dedicated and energetic community that consistently makes student needs a priority. I am thrilled to be working here as the GT Facilitator & Literacy Specialist.

I have been in the field of education -- teaching kindergarten through college - for over 18 years. I attended college at the University of Illinois and graduated with a degree in Secondary English Education; soon after I earned a graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction/Reading Methods. I started my career as a middle school Language Arts teacher (and GT cluster teacher) in the Chicago suburbs. It was during this time that I earned my K-6 Early Adolescent English Language Arts National Certification. Ready for a new challenge, I transferred to a different district and worked as a literacy coach and reading teacher for struggling K-8 readers. During this time, I also represented my district to partner with Northwestern University to write curriculum for gifted students. Additionally, I taught some graduate level courses for pre-teachers at DePaul University in Chicago. After taking some time off to be home with my children, I came back to work as a third grade teacher. Ultimately, my husband was offered a job in Colorado (lucky us!) and we made the move to Lone Tree in the Fall of 2014.

I am part of a very active family! I have three kids -- two are students here in Douglas County -- who are 19, 17 and 14. My oldest is a sophomore at CU Boulder studying Business/Marketing. We love to ski, read, travel, attend concerts, cook, bake, and hike with our new dog Barrett. While we miss friends and family from Chicagoland, we have quickly adapted to the Colorado lifestyle and are happy to be living in this beautiful state.
